The project Ákun virta was partially realised in autumn 2021 in collaboration with the video artist Elle Sumelius.
In the video we row in the middle of Inari lake's reed bed, in Finnish northern Lapland, trying to hunt ducks with a bow. The idea of the project was to question the representation of a self-sufficiency hermit man who hunt with his own made boat and bow. By working together, we found ourselves playing different roles and we found that the video is much more an ode to team work and relational aesthetics than the representation of solitude.
Ákun virta is also an ode to the ancient sacrificial place, the mountain Ákku that we see in the background of the scenes, an important local place for Inari sámi people.
I finally finalised the project by mounting an installation of it for the group show "Ne pas déranger" in Montreuil in december 2022, curated by Emploi fictif.
I installed the video with the initial bow and arrows, and pine tar also.
